Flora FFA brought home more awards by placing 2nd place in the Section 23 Agronomy contest out of 12 schools on December 2, 2016 at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel. Garrett Williams placed 5th overall.
Kenna Williams, Lola Keoughan, Kaitlyn Shelby, Dakota Greenwood, and Sabryna Williams, along with Garrett advanced to the Illinois State Agronomy contest at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where they received 10th place. Garrett Williams placed 13th overall.
Weed identification, crop/seed identification, general agronomy knowledge test, and soil profile examinations make up the event.
Garrett Williams said, “Flora FFA improved greatly by placing second for the first time in a long time in a section CDE.”
The group followed this success a month later by receiving 2nd place in the Section 23 Poultry Contest out of 12 schools on January 26. They were narrowly beat out of first place by 12 points while beating the third place team by 130 points.
Sabryna Williams placed 1st place overall individual. Dawson Weidner placed 3rd and Kolbi Kittle was 12th.
