Students at Flora High School donated blood through the American Red Cross. Roughly eighty four students, forty four in fall and forty in spring, have rolled up their sleeves to save and improve the lives of others.
According to Mrs. Massie, one of the administrators at FHS, the number of students who plan to make donations has stayed relatively consistent over the years. In addition, she notes that students are generally eager and willing to help.
To encourage donations, the Red Cross speaks to students during PE classes to educate them on the importance of giving blood to those in need. In order to support students who make the decision, faculty grants those students one free no-dress day and two hours of community service.
On the day of the blood drive, students and faculty are encouraged to eat a healthy breakfast in preparation for a successful donation experience.
