Two seniors, Briley Keach and Miley VanHyning, wish to pursue their goals of becoming future nurses and helping those in need.
The beginning of their journey of gaining experience in the medical field consisted of their participation in a Health Occupations class. In this particular class, they were able to have hands-on learning as well as in-class studying time.
During the first semester, both Briley and Miley mentioned that it was more in-class work, including book time, on-paper assignments, and learning more about medical terminology. The second semester involved more hands-on experience, as they worked in a hospital.
Miley wishes to proceed in her learning path to eventually become an EMT or work in the ER. She states, “It depends on where life takes me.” This was her response to what hospital she plans to work at after college. Miley also talks about how she wants to go to Frontier to receive her EMT and RN license.
Briley is on the fence about which area of nursing to take, but at this moment, she’s highly considering going into Labor and Delivery. She wishes to attend OCC to get her associate’s degree and later on get her bachelor’s degree online.
Both students found their passion from past family members working in the medical field and helping out loved ones who were sick.
