The first round of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering, or WYSE, Academic Challenge took place on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. The Academic Challenge is comprised of a series of tests ranging from 30-100 questions and a variety of subjects. Schools have the chance to place as a group, as well as individuals.
Flora High School Senior Devan Warren placed first in Computer Science and Junior Vivian Duquaine place third in English.
This allowed Warren to attend the second round at Eastern Illinois University on March 8, where he tied for second in Computer Science. When asked about his experience, Warren stated “It was a challenging but rewarding academic experience.”
Warren’s second place finish enables him to attend the next round, the WYSE State Finals, at I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign on April 19.
