Homecoming week is coming up and that means it’s about time to be getting ready for the annual homecoming parade. This event will begin at 4:00P.M. on Friday October 18. Students need to arrive at the Depot around 3:30P.M. if they plan on being in the parade.
This year the Parade Marshal will be Flora High School’s retiring principal, Darrell Gummert. He will have the honor of leading the parade through the town of Flora. Mostly everyone participating in the parade has been a student at FHS that he has both influenced and guided through their high school years.
The Jr. High band will be participating in this event with Mrs. Hudson directing them.
All fall sports will also be in this parade and will be on their own floats representing their teams. These sports include football, football cheerleading, girls tennis, and volleyball. Golf is going on now but will not be in the parade line up this year.
The past royalty, Cory Moore and Hannah Chaney, will be coming and joining the event. Once the Homecoming court for this year has been decided, those couples will be driven through the parade as well.
The classes will be working on their floats the week of homecoming with the help of their class sponsors. The freshman are sponsored this year by Clayton Plumlee, sophomores are sponsored by Brooke O’Donnell and Josh Fox, juniors are headed by Kellie Massie and Courtney Atwood, and the seniors have Alicia Westjohn and Bryan Ridge as a class sponsor. All of these floats will be judged in the parade.
This year five judges have been chosen to evaluate every float and choose which one they like based on a rubric they will follow. These judges include, Avery Peterson, Chris Butler, Loren Holloway, Skip Dillion and Stacey Earleywine.
