Hard work always pays off in the end, and FHS senior Blake McWilliams is no different. He has received a scholarship from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale worth $16,000. Called the Dean’s Scholarship, this merit-based award grants him $4,000 a year for his academic achievements.
These achievements include a score of 25 on the ACT, a GPA of 3.75, and a class rank of 13 out 82. He is also our Student Body President here at the high school, a leadership role which factored in to his receiving the scholarship.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity they’ve given me,” he said, referring to the University. He added that he worked hard to be where he is now.
