‘Yeah, I like kids. I used to be one.” Thomas Burrow is a janitor at the high school, he is also one of the most active janitors. If you need help after school, find him and he’ll do his best to assist you. If you’re inside the building after school and need assistance finding something, like a broom, he will tell you where you can find it.
Every day he lines up the desks, sweeps, dusts, and sometimes mops. That is his normal day.
On a not-so-normal day, he talks about,“ The weirdest thing I saw was one time a girl took the plastic bag out of the feminine hygiene product box and pooped in it. Didn’t get poop on the bag or the floor, anything. Just neatly pooped in the bag and tied it to the flusher.” The second weirdest thing he has seen is two pairs of shoes clogging a toilet in the boys’ locker room.
Not all Burrow’s tasks are equal. He said, “My least favorite is the boys’ locker room because they are so untidy.”
He first started at the high school by offering to help move things in, and the school liked him and his work, so they kept him.
Over his 9 years here, he has gotten 33 bats and one pigeon out of the school. “The pigeon was a challenge because it was in the big gym and my handle on my net is only so big. I won’t kill ‘em. I won’t kill anything that eats its weight in mosquitoes.”
