The Science Club traveled to Wabash Valley College to view a cadaver surgery on March 15th. The event was part of the Health Professions Fair held each year at the school.
Students who were not in Science Club but who were taking a class with an interest in the medical field or anatomy also had the opportunity to attend.
The students attended break-out sessions where they were broken into four groups: Surgery, Rehab, Nursing and Lab,based on which they were more interested in. They had the opportunity to talk to people in a variety of health professions and learn about the careers.
After the break-out sessions, the orthopedic surgery team performed a complete knee replacement on a cadaver. Students got to watch the surgery team and ask questions throughout the procedure. “I feel like students got a lot out of it and enjoyed it,” instructor Addie Dehart said
The students also visited the Anatomy classroom to see the cadavers used by the college and got to get on stage after the surgery to see and touch the cadaver.
