The Flora FFA brought the officer group to SIUC for the COLT Leadership Conference.
The COLT Conference, Chapter Officer Leadership Training, is exclusively for chapter officers around the state.
Hayden Young, our FFA Chapter’s reporter, said, “When we first arrived, we were greeted with Domino’s pizza, soda, and chips.”
After enjoying a tasty dinner, they were split into groups but not before doing a fun activity.
“We had to go around and play charades, trying to meet up with others in our office without talking,” Young continued.
Being a reporter, Young was split up with other reporters, while the other offices were put in their groups.
During their session, they played team-building activities and games. “We had to go around and say our name and something we liked. We had to remember everyone else’s answers who had previously gone,” Young explained.
They also learned how to unify together and improve their chapter as a whole.
“It was a very informative convention that I think will better us as leaders,” Young says, feeling the effects of the learning experience.
After having a great time and connecting with their group, they were sent to meet all back together and resumed the games until it was time to head home.
Young says it was a very memorable experience, especially when a debate broke out: “A large debate broke out over whether Ski or Mountain Dew is better.” She personally prefers Ski.
“It was a great experience and I learned a lot about being a better leader and improving my chapter,” Young concluded..
Hayden said she would 100% recommend it to any officers, “because it improves your leadership capabilities.”
