On September 12, seniors from Flora High School were treated to an exciting day at St. Louis for a Cardinals game, an experience made possible by the Flora Academic Foundation and supported by a Career Technical Education grant. The annual trip, which first began in 2019 with the entire senior class, had temporarily been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has now made a triumphant return, providing students with memorable and enriching experiences.
Each ticket, generously funded by the Flora Academic Foundation at $15, included not only admission to the game, but also free complimentary hot dogs, bags of chips, drinks, and access to a college fair featuring job expo speakers. “It’s a great opportunity for our seniors,” states Mrs. Massie, highlighting the event’s role in equipping the students with essential resources and experiences for their future.
Transportation costs for the trip were funded by the Technical Education Improvement grant, ensuring that all seniors could participate without any financial burdens. This year’s event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with seniors enjoying a day away from the classroom.
Riley Krutsinger, one of the attending seniors, expressed her enjoyment towards the trip, citing the free food and the chance to relax outside of school to be her favorite part.
Originally, the trip began with Mr. McNeely’s Jobs for IL Graduates class, which attended the event for several years before it expanded to include the entire senior class. The return of this trip has been welcomed by both students and faculty as a means to foster school spirit and community engagement.
As a part of the trip preparations, seniors were reminded to complete a google form by 2:00 PM the day before the trip to confirm their attendance, with tickets ordered shortly afterwards. Students were advised to arrive at the school by 7:15 AM on game day.
The trip serves as a fantastic opportunity for seniors to connect with one another while gaining insight into their future careers. With ongoing support from the Flora Academic Foundation and local grants, Flora High School looks forward to continuing this valuable tradition for many years to come.
