This school year, the FCCLA program at Flora High School is working on a Community Service project for Operation Christmas Child and the local nursing homes. Carrying out these projects for the community, the FCCLA Club helps out the people who may not have much and gives joy to those this holiday season.
FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America which targets any student who has been involved in Family and Consumer Science Courses.
This Fall season, the members of FCCLA have packed four shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child and 75 Christmas baskets for the local nursing homes. Their goal for these projects is to help others in the community because Mrs. Thackeray believes it’s important to think about others.
Not only does this club bring joy to places in town, but it also brings joy to those who are members of FCCLA. Throughout the school year, the club offers fun activities for members by celebrating with parties and treats.
For this school year, they are having a Jingle Bus in December, a Winter Ball in January, Valentine Treats in February, an Easter Party, and Graduation gifts for the club members. Having these extra fun activities throughout the year, Mrs. Thackery says, allows the students to come together and have an enjoyable time.
In the future, they plan to offer more opportunities that allow a variety of students to meet new people and enjoy their High School career.
Alongside FCCLA, FCA is also reaching out to help others during the holiday season, it is a program at Flora High School that allows Christian athletes to show God’s work through helping people in the community. They also participated in the Operation Christmas program where they filled up shoeboxes with gifts for children.
Mrs. Thackery explains that the projects they strive for are Christian-based activities that everyone in the club can be part of. In the future, they plan to start monthly lunches for the club members and have Friday be a party day for every week.
FCA is not just for athletes but also non-athletes. They believe anyone who wants to be part of Christian activities should be able to.
Both FCCLA and FCA are important and beneficial clubs for the students, they can perform acts of kindness throughout the town and spread joy to others.
