The FHS Competition Cheer team has ended their very rewarding 2024-2025 season.
Throughout the hectic season, the competition team scored four 1st place wins and was titled the Game Day ICCA State Champions.
While staying on their winning streak, the girls worked countless hours to maintain their routines.
“We just have to remind ourselves what we are working towards. Anytime we feel tired or unmotivated, we just remember how good it feels to win, which motivates us,” Kinley Atwood, a second-year member of the team, said.
While persevering through the season, the girls devoted many opportunities and late nights.
“The team has stayed busy with our long, sometimes late, night practices,” Ella Cammon, a third-year member of the team, added.
With hard work and diligence, the girls have achieved their goals.
“My biggest goal was to place in the top five at the ICCA Championships, and we achieved this goal,” Atwood shared.
Reflecting on this season’s achievements, the team looks forward to achieving just as many next year.
“As a team, I’m hoping we can come up with new, impressive cheers that can wow the crowd,” Cammon said.
Reminiscing on the season, the girls shared many valuable experiences.
“My favorite memory was placing first at the ICCA Championships, it was such an amazing feeling,” Atwood said.
Despite working hard throughout the season, the girls were able to spend time together outside of cheer.
“My favorite memory was the team sleepover we had before the Vandalia tournament. It allowed the team to bond outside of a cheer setting,” Cammon shares.
Even though their season has ended, the competition team is presenting a half-time performance of their game-time routine.
“I’m looking forward to Feb. 8 when we perform our Game Day routine at the boys’ basketball game against Wayne City,” Atwood said.
After performing their award-winning routine, they will be performing a different one for senior night.
“We will also be performing the music portion of our long routine for senior night,” Cammon added.
Although they’re losing very cherished seniors, they’re keeping their spirits high with the promise of future members.
“Next year we will be losing our main tumbler which might set us back; I believe, with new members coming in, we can cover that spot,” Cammon said.
With their new members, the cheer team expects another favorable season.
“I expect us to do well next year in our Gameday routine. Our coaches always find ways to be more creative than the year before,” Atwood said.
