Flora High School Principal Toby Pearce announced the Illinois State Scholars last week. They are Daniel Pieplow, son of Brian and Tina Pieplow; Samantha Briscoe, daughter of Bobby and Diane Briscoe; Brooke Winka, daughter of Mike and Tina Winka; Darian Cazadd, daughter of Dawn and Mark Cazadd; and Sarah Alvord, daughter of Phil and Janet Alvord. Throughout their high school careers they have all accumulated a GPA over 4.0 and earned ACT scores of 27 or better.
Pieplow plans to play tennis at Kaskaskia College, though his major is undecided. Briscoe wants to attend Murray State University in Kentucky and join the Ag Program. Winka wants to major in Speech-Pathology, but has not finalized her college choice. Cazadd plans on going into the field of Pharmacy. Alvord wants to attend Olivet Nazarene University and study Spanish, ESL, and education.
The five state scholars will be honored various times throughout the year, including half-time at a basketball game, senior awards day, and graduation.
