At Flora High School on October 18, 2021, Ms. Massie held the annual college fair. This college fair was the first of its kind in that it was held during the day and not in the evening. Mrs. Massie has been in charge since she took over for Mr. McNeely four years ago. Mr. McNeely started the college fair twelve years ago and This year Ms. Massie invited seventeen colleges, five military branches, and Hella, NAL, Minwax, Sherman Williams, and Staff Quick. Flora Academic Foundation scholarships were also there for Senior and Junior scholarship opportunities.
Last year there was no fair because ¨Covid was a challenge.”.No one would want to watch an online fair and they were thrilled to come back this year,¨ Ms. Massie said.
The first change was arranging the fair during the day, but due to covid Ms. Massie had the fair during the school. The only setback to holding it in the day Ms. Massie said was ,¨We usually invite other schools from the rest of the county during the evening, and we schedule the college fair around sports events”.
With the set back though came a new advantage. “This year was awesome for English to make an assignment to ask questions for a grade because kids were more interactive with representatives.¨ Ms. Massie said.
So after hitting some bumps in the road, Ms. Massie is excited and happy with the results and future of the college fair. Usually, after the college fair, the universities and employers give Massie some feedback on their thoughts about the fair and how the school can help their students adapt to adult life. The college fair, though, is set to keep evolving and changing.¨What we would keep scheduling it during the day because more kids were able to interact and talk to colleges. shortening the senior time in the big gym, and in the afternoon bus in the rest of the county,” Ms. Massie said.
