FHS Drama club presents “Cinderella”

By: Samantha Limbos

The Flora High School drama club production of Cinderella will grace the stage of Harry Penry auditorium March 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. and March 24 at 2 p.m.

This year, the story is a modernized remake of Rodgers’ and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Though the story will be familiar to most who have seen the Disney production, there are some differences.

The story is about Ella, a servant girl, played by Olivia Luzadder, whose fairy grandmother, played by Sydney Hatcher, sends her to a ball to meet Prince Topher, played by Owen Traub. Throughout the story, Topher learns how to govern his kingdom while Ella learns who she truly is.

In addition to these three roles, there are other memorable leading roles. Abigail Gindlesberger portrays Madame, the evil stepmother, Emma Luzadder is in the role of Charlotte, one of the evil step-sisters, while Mallory Thomason plays Gabrielle, the other step-sister. Ty Landreth performs as Jean-Michel, the town revolutionary, Landon Durre is Lord Pinkleton, and Cali Wilson is Sebastien, Prince Topher’s adviser.

Though Wilson holds a male role, Cali expressed it doesn’t matter and that she feels comfortable with her role because she has already played a male in one of her previous musicals.

Drama club has been working on this production since January, practicing Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.

This year the musical has been moved up a week because of Easter, causing some to feel unprepared for the performances.

Senior cast member Abigail Gindlesberger says,  “We are not ready; we’re almost there but we definitely need the last practices.”

Senior cast member Mallory Thomason disagrees: “Everybody feels like we are not ready, but I don’t.”

However, Gindlesberger and Thomason agree on one thing, both are very excited about this weekend’s performances, but a little bit sad because it’s their last time on stage with their friends.
