Hoping to win the opportunity of a lifetime, FHS senior Meredith O’Brien used her writing skills to earn a trip to the nation’s capitol. She, along with other winners from throughout the state, travelled to Washington D.C., where 44 states gathered to tour national monuments and sites from June 13 to June 20.
Clay Electric offered juniors at FHS the chance to win the trip. Interested applicants were required to write an essay explaining how Clay Electric Co-ops helps the student and why they deserve to go to the capitol.
The winners visited historical sites including The Holocaust Museum, The Capitol Building and The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. They also met U.S. Senator John Shimkus.
O’Brien said she met a lot of new people and made new friends. She even talked to Shimkus’ assistant about possible internships.
She told Clay Electric about how she enjoyed the trip upon return. “This trip was life-changing and made me grow as a person. I love D.C. and can’t wait to return.” O’Brien stated.
