Wolves to attend playoffs

By Emily Cox
Last Friday the Flora Wolves fought against the Red Hill Salukis to have a chance of hosting the playoff game at home. The Wolves record of 6-2 has clinched them a spot in the playoffs. Coach Warren says, “The 7 year itch has been scratched.” Although the Wolves lost 18-40, they will still travel to Eldorado, IL on October 29, 2016 to compete in the playoffs.
It’s been 7 years since the Wolves have been to the playoffs. The last play-off game the Wolves attended was in 2009. The Wolves being 6-2 in the conference, they were able to host the play-off here in Flora. Sadly, they lost to Central A&M in Moweaqua, but making it to the playoffs is a big accomplishment.
The Wolves have had a good season this year; defeating the Richland County Tigers in a rivalry game has been their biggest accomplishment of the year earning the shrine trophy. This year is the first time the Wolves have beat the Richland Tigers since 2001. They’ve also beat Casey, Robinson, Lawrenceville, Paris and Carlyle this season.
Senior Trevin Smith says having a good season makes him feel like they’re changing the football program. The Wolves practiced harder in the offseason this year, which has clearly benefitted them this year. He also noted that the fans being loud behind the team creates motivation to try even harder in the games. Earning a spot in the playoffs is a proud moment for all of Flora football fans, parents, coaches and players.
