Flora High School Science Club ventured to Vincennes University on Friday, Oct.15. The university hosted many activities such as Electrofishing, Calorimetry, Projectile Motions, Soil Health, Directions in Anatomy, Every Graph Tells a Story, Silvering a Bottle, and the Natural Selection Lab.
Twenty-six students attended the event with Mrs. Dehart. FHS students were divided into groups with students from other schools.
Katie Muskopf, a sophomore here at FHS, left a detailed form from the university trip. Katie said her main thing from the outing was setting a potato chip on fire. During the examination her and a classmate, Madyson needed to address estimations or some likeness thereof to get legitimate estimations. They before long discovered the measure of calories that a potato chip had.
Another student, Jebee Salmorin, a junior, did a dissection. She learned how to cut a sheep’s heart, eye and kidney. Questions asked among her group were where the atriums and the pulmonary valve was, and where to cut the organ appropriately. Jebee said her weakness from the dissection was recognizing some of the parts and where the ventricles were located.
After the activities they got to eat lunch at the dining hall at the college, and then toured the campus.
Students gave positive feedback: the food was good, and it was a great experience.
