Wolves tennis faces new foes

By Rylee Welty

The tennis season started off with a smash. Coach Plumlee expects this year’s tennis team to do well. Even though the team is still young without all the experience needed, “this is the deepest team yet,” Coach Plumlee said.

Out of twelve members on the team, there are three seniors and three new members. The new members are Joel Closson, Adam Pietz, and Zaiden Lewis. The seniors are Brody Sharp, Eli Scoles, and Joel Closson.

To prepare the freshman and new people, the coaches try to start them off with jv matches if the opportunity is there. To better the whole team, they work on serves a couple times a week, footwork, getting the right body positions, and volleys in practice.

Unlike last year, the tennis team is now able to attend more matches and play against more schools this year. The team is supposed to have around 19 matches throughout the season.

On April 1-2, the top eight players on the team attended a tournament in Edwardsville. The team won against two teams, but lost their match to Waterloo. They placed 3rd in their bracket.

“My favorite thing about tennis is how it motivates me to be better,” junior player Justin Mitchell said.
