The Annual Appleknocker Festival will host its 26th annual event on Sept. 27, 2014. The festival has been known for being family-oriented and involving the whole community.
The first Appleknocker Festival was held September, 1989. The event was created by former Flora teacher Jane Snyder. The event came to thought after she attended a similar festival presented in a southern state. Snyder and Cheryl Headlee, a Flora School District educator, planned the first Appleknocker Arts and Science Festival.
“Every year, more and more visitors and alumni have come from miles away to take part in this fun and enriching festival!” said Tina Pieplow, President of the Flora Academic Foundation.
New events this year include Bucket Boys percussionist duo, Cooperfly Puppet Troupe, and Bob-a-loo.
All Entertainment and Attractions are free to attendees. FHS Band and Shooting Stars will open our Festival with patriotism and energizing music. The remainder morning entertainment will feature Power & Grace Tumblers, Bob-a-loo, and Bucket Boys.
In the afternoon guests can enjoy the traditional Kahok Dancers, Bucket Boys, Bob-a-loo, Cooperfly puppets on stage, and DAS*zle Dance and Tumble. Some morning acts will perform again in the afternoon.
During the day you can find Cooperfly puppet troupe, the Stilt Walker, and Mime, roaming about. Krazy Klowns, and the traditional One Man Band can be found near Washington School. BoyScout Bridge and Horse Rides are available all day. FHS DTD Drumline will have at least two main performances.
Think of your favorite food, and it will probably be found on Food Row!
From the Famous Apple Dumplings to Taco in a Bag, to BBQ, Pork Burgers,
Shake Ups, and everything in between. All varieties of food and drink – all
tasty and refreshing – will be available throughout the day.
