FHS student council hosts blood drive

By Delaney Elliott

Flora High School held a public blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 9. For more than twelve years Flora High School Student Council has hosted both Fall and Spring blood drives.

“This last blood drive hosted a record turnout of 86 donors with 70 productive units,” says Student Council advisor Karla Slover. Also, donors were offered the opportunity to donate the plasma that is separated from their blood in a “double machine.”

Teachers from FHS also make an effort to give blood every time the school hosts a blood drive. “You can always count on Mr. Leib and Mrs. Fleener to give,” Slover adds.
The donated blood goes to blood banks, the closest one being in Effingham, where it is distributed to those in need of it because of accidents, medical emergencies, surgeries, and anything else for which a person may need blood.

The next blood drive is scheduled for April 11, 2017.
