After 12 years of teaching in the Flora districts and a total of 35 years of teaching, Ms. Slover will soon be retiring.
At the age of 4, Slover already knew she was going to be a teacher. She graduated from EIU with a bachelor’s degree in special education in 1982, Slover then received a master’s degree in administration from EIU in 2010.
Following college she taught Educable Mentally Handicapped (EMH) for North Clay junior high students. In 2005, Flora hired her for the 2005-2006 year. Ms. Slover enjoyed working with many of the staff, but mostly enjoyed working with Elicia Henderson, a former special education teacher.
While working for FHS she enjoyed building a relationship with all of her students and loved being a parade marshal in the homecoming parade this year.
“In all my years of teaching, I don’t regret anything” said Ms. Slover; she said she has many memories that have been amazing for her.
One of her best memories in track was when Senior Andrew Keller earned his 3rd place ribbon; she also enjoyed watching the girls track and seeing the girls expressions for success.
When doing student council she enjoyed watching the students take leadership and stretch their imaginations.
“When I coached the volleyball girls, I seem to get closer to the girls and it fills my emptiness when i’m away from my daughter” said Slover.
Ms. Slover stated that her proudest moment in her life is when she gave birth to her daughter.
When she retires she hopes to start playing golf, travel a lot, and spend more time with family.
