Student Council pairs with Country Rhodes for charity fish fry

By Becca Persinger

Student Council will be serving all you can eat fish from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the high school commons during the Flora Wolves basketball game against Mt. Carmel on Saturday, February 21. Carry out will be available, and some of the food that will be offered at the event includes walleye, chicken strips, popcorn shrimp, and sides. There will be a variety of baked goods to go with the meal.

“I was involved in a Country Rhodes Fish Fry five years ago, and it was a great experience for me,” Student Council sponsor Karla Slover said, “If we get a good response from the community, which I am sure we will, the fish fry fundraiser will become an annual event for Student Council.”

Members of the community have been kind enough to volunteer to provide baked goods to be sold at the event. Tickets are currently being sold for $9 for adults and $6 for children, with students involved in Student Council are selling them. They can also be purchased at the door the night of the event. The proceeds will be split between the Student Council and the Wounded Veteran’s Fisher House Foundation.

“This would be a great opportunity for FHS students who are not in Student Council to start on or finish their ten hours of community service,” Slover said.

If interested, students should contact Slover to volunteer. Community service hours will be from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Some of the jobs that the students would be performing would be setting up before the event, washing the fish before it is cooked, refilling dishes when they run out, and cleaning up after the event.

“It’s going to be a blast working for such a good cause, and I am excited to see the town’s response to our first fish fry,” Student Council member Marissa Wagley said, “We have the chance to help support people who served our country.”
