Coming off of last year’s 12 – 4 season, winning the conference tournament, and being the Casey doubles champions, the Flora Wolfgals are looking to improve their record and send many players to the state competition.
So far, the Wolfgals’ record for this season is 9-2. They placed 3rd in the Edwardsville tournament. Coach Jerry Stringer is hoping to bring home a win in the Casey Doubles Tournament and the Big Price Conference Tournament.
Stringer admits there is always room for improvement but is very confident in his talented tennis team.
The Flora Wolfgals had a match on Tuesday, September 4th, at home, where they won 7-2. They also played Wednesday, September 5th, at home, winning all of their singles and one doubles match, but the rain delayed two of their doubles matches.
Last year, doubles partners, Kasey Jennings and Sonae Shelton, placed in the top twelve teams in the state, making Second Team All-State. Kyrsten Darrough and Gracey Himelick, current tennis players, also qualified for state last year.
