Fresh/Soph football

By: Summer Cartright
This year, seventy-five percent of the football team’s roster is made up of the fresh/soph athletes. Coach Tackitt stated, their development is going to have to be quick, as many of the fresh/soph players not only dress varsity, but they are needed to play significant roles in the varsity games.
They also have the chance to play on Mondays against other fresh/soph teams, where they have greater confidence. Coach Tackitt thinks, as a group, they have made great strides this year, and he is looking forward to seeing even more improvement for the rest of the year.
“In the future, playing on Friday nights is going to pay big time in the years to come,” said Coach Tackitt.
On Aug. 27, the fresh/soph football team played the Red Hill Salukis. The Wolves knew they had to be mentally prepared to take on the skilled Salukis.
The Salukis traveled to Flora to compete against the Wolves. For their first game, the Wolves came out strong, knowing what to expect. Both teams played very well, forcing the fans to sit on the edge of their seats. However, the Wolves pulled through and won 24 to 18 over the Salukis.
For their second game, Marshall Lions forfeited due to their lack of fresh/soph players. Then, on Monday, September 10, the Wolves traveled to Robinson, taking on the Maroons’ fresh/soph football team. The Maroons defeated the Wolves, winning 36-26, making their record 2-1.
