Hoping for another successful season and to add another year to the new Elite 8 banner hanging in Conley gym, the Flora Wolfgals basketball team started their season off with a win against Fairfield on Nov. 19. The game ended with a score of 49-35.
The girls then went on to the Newton tournament with a 4-0 total at the end of all the games. They played Effingham in the first game with a final score of 46-45. After the Effingham game they played Altamont, ending the game with 50-24. The same night the Wolfgals played Cumberland, finishing the night with a score of 48-15. The last game of the tournament was against conference rival the Newton Lady Eagles, with the Wolfgals coming out on top, 30-25.
The team was happy to bring home some hardware. It was the first time in ten years that the Wolfgals have won the tournament, senior Crimson Jones said.
After the Tournament, Nov. 24-28, the Wolfgals played Mt. Carmel to advance their season total to 6-0, making them an undefeated team. On Dec. 5, the girls took on the Woodlawn Cardinals, to advance season score to 7-0. The Flora Wolfgals played Lawrenceville, maintaining their undefeated status with a season score of 8-0. The girls brought home another win against Edwards County on Dec. 10. On Dec. 14, the Wolfgals played the Robinson Lady Maroons, with a final score of 60-32. After the Robinson game, the team took on the North Clay Lady Cardinals, to end the game 65-40, making the season total 10-0.
The Wolfgals go on the road to take on the Marshal Lady Lions Saturday, Dec. 19.
