As February comes to an end, the spring sports seasons are starting up. The boys tennis and softball teams have been practicing for weeks and are looking forward to their first matchups.
The boys tennis team lost three seniors all in the starting line up last year, but they are also looking at a roster with over 20 boys for this season. Their real season starts on May 5, but they have been working at open courts the whole winter.
Caleb Shehorn, Gentry Spicer, and Ryan Billingsley were all excited to answer some questions about the season. Shehorn and Spicer have played since they were freshmen, Billingsley started a year later as a sophomore.
All three boys agreed their hardest competition would be T-Town. But Caleb said he was expecting the team to be “amazing, we’re going to state this year.” When asked why he thought that, he replied with “We have Luke Powless,” a returning junior.
Spicer’s biggest goal this year is “to get better everyday,” and Billingsley is “to rank 14 [instead of 15] this season.”
The boys together are looking forward to the vibes, the food, and getting to play the sport for another year while also getting to improve their skills and work with each other.
With the loss of the seniors, Shehorn said “I’m happy we’re getting Jordan [Gocey] as an assistant coach”
Gocey was their number one in the previous year. He also stated that the loss of seniors will hurt “more mentally then in the line up,” since they were so close to them.
