On March 12, 2026, our Advanced Foods class attended a field trip to Rend Lake College to experience what it is like to be in a commercial-grade kitchen. They visited with the cooks and were shown what the kitchen environment is like. They toured the entire college and the college’s student life. They also visited Cafe Bloom, where they enjoyed a catered lunch.
Kiera Rogers, an advanced foods student, states “Going on this field trip inspired me to go into a culinary profession.” She loved the environment of the kitchen and had a feeling that it was just right for her.
Josie Lewis said that the trip was fascinating, and she had never seen a kitchen so big. Although she does not want to go into a culinary profession, she still feels that this trip was beneficial to her and was a great learning experience.
