Flora’s Class of 2026 cheerleaders took the floor for the final time as seniors on Monday, February 9, closing a chapter filled with energy, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
For many of the seniors, the experience was about more than just cheering on the sidelines. It was about the bonds they built along the way. Elise Duke reflected on her favorite moments, saying the best part was “making close friends with the girls and going to Vandalia.” Andi Henson highlighted a major milestone, recalling “winning regionals sophomore year” as a standout memory.
While most of the team plans to pursue different paths after graduation, Haley Wicke will continue her cheerleading career at Greenville University, taking her skills to the collegiate level.
Behind the smiles and school spirit, the sport comes with its share of challenges. Wicke explained, “The hardest part about competitive cheering is definitely stamina and endurance. In regular basketball and football cheer, I think tumbling and advanced stunts are the hardest part.”
Other teammates echoed similar struggles. Makenna Hackley shared that “having a stunt not work or conflicts among the team” can be especially difficult. Ella Cammon pointed out the emotional side of the sport, saying, “It’s hard having to act like you are in a good mood in front of the crowd even after the worst days.”
Sydney Dawkins added that one of the toughest parts is “getting thrown in the air while stunting,” while Elise Duke emphasized the pressure of “doing pyramids and making sure everyone is safe.”
Despite the challenges, one thing was clear among the seniors: the friendships they formed meant everything. As their final season comes to an end, many of them say they will miss the time spent together the most, leaving behind not just a team, but a family.
